Plasterboard

Plasterboard is mainly made of building plaster. The raw materials are mostly hemihydrate calcium sulfate processed from natural or chemical plaster, and fibers and additives are also added. Common types include paper-faced, non-paper-faced, and decorative plasterboards. It is lightweight, convenient for installation; has relatively good fireproof performance and can delay the spread of fire; has a certain sound insulation ability, and the effect can be improved through construction; it is easy to process and can be operated with simple tools. Plasterboards are commonly used for indoor ceilings and walls, such as the ceilings of residences, office places, and shopping malls, as well as partition walls and backdrop walls.

Types:

Ordinary paper-faced Plasterboard: It is the most common type, with facing paper covering both sides of the gypsum core material. The facing paper can enhance the strength of the gypsum board and facilitate decorative operations such as plastering and pasting wallpaper on its surface. It is mainly used for the base treatment of indoor walls and ceilings.

Water-resistant gypsum board: Based on the ordinary gypsum board, special waterproof components are added or the paper surface is waterproof-treated to give it better water-resistant performance. This kind of gypsum board is suitable for the walls and ceilings in damp environments such as kitchens and bathrooms.

Fire-resistant gypsum board: Special fire retardants are added or special production processes are adopted to further improve the fire-resistant performance of the gypsum board. It is mainly used in places with relatively high fire protection requirements, such as firewalls and fire escape passages.

Characteristics

Lightweight: Gypsum boards are relatively light in weight, which facilitates transportation and installation. For example, a gypsum board with a standard specification (such as 1200mm × 2400mm × 9.5mm) can be easily carried by one person, making the construction process more efficient.

Good fireproof performance: Since gypsum itself contains a large amount of crystal water, when exposed to fire, this crystal water will evaporate and absorb heat, thus delaying the spread of the fire. Generally speaking, the fire resistance limit of ordinary gypsum boards can reach about 0.5 – 1.5 hours, which provides a certain amount of time for personnel evacuation and fire rescue.

Sound insulation performance: It has a certain sound insulation effect. Although it cannot completely block sound, when used in multiple layers or in combination with other sound insulation materials, it can effectively reduce the transmission of sound. For example, in home decoration, using a double-layer gypsum board partition wall can block the transmission of sound better than a single-layer gypsum board.

Good processing performance: It is easy to carry out processing operations such as cutting, drilling and nailing. Decorators can use simple tools, such as utility knives and handsaws, to cut the gypsum boards according to the actual decoration requirements to adapt to the sizes and shapes of different walls and ceilings.
