Features of Rock wool :
Non – combustibility: Rock wool is made from natural rocks and belongs to inorganic silicate fibers. It has the highest fire – resistance rating of Class A in terms of combustion performance characteristics. It is non – combustible, can effectively prevent the spread of fire, and will not release substances and gases harmful to the environment during a fire.
Lightweight: The bulk density of rock wool products is generally between 60 – 200 kg/m³. Their relatively light weight makes them convenient for handling and installation.
Good chemical stability: Its chemical composition is stable, with a relatively high acidity coefficient. It has good physical and chemical properties and weathering resistance. It is non – combustible, non – mildewing, and non – moth – eaten. It belongs to the same category of substances as cement, the main building material. It has a long service life and can reach the same service life as the building.
Low thermal conductivity: Under normal temperature conditions, the thermal conductivity of rock wool products is usually between 0.03 – 0.046 W/(m·K). It is an excellent thermal insulation material that can effectively isolate the transfer of external heat or cold air.
High sound absorption coefficient: Rock wool products have a porous structure. When sound waves pass through, due to the effect of flow resistance, friction occurs, causing part of the sound energy to be absorbed by the fibers, thus impeding the transmission of sound waves. It has super – strong sound insulation and sound absorption performance.
Applications of Rock wool:
Thermal insulation: It is used for thermal insulation of building roofs, walls, floors, etc. It can effectively maintain indoor temperature, improve energy efficiency, and is also applicable to the thermal insulation of industrial equipment, pipelines, containers, and various kilns.
Fire and heat insulation: It is often used for fire and heat insulation in buildings, such as in flues, chimneys, as well as in areas with high fire – prevention requirements like firewalls, fire – resistant doors, and elevator shafts. It can effectively isolate flames and high temperatures.
Sound absorption and noise reduction: It can be used as a sound – absorbing material for ceiling suspension, reducing indoor noise. It can also be used as a decorative material for walls or wall – ceilings, reducing the noise of rain and hail hitting the walls, creating a quiet and comfortable resting environment.
Corrosion resistance: It will not corrode or age due to long – term exposure to substances such as air, moisture, acids, and alkalis.
